laVerdi, Chamber Music Season 2017

The chamber music concert season of the Fondazione laVerdi is back in the cosy environment of the M.A.C. in Milan. This year there's a number of interesting news, starting from the day of the week: Monday evening, always at 8.30 pm, and the piano, a Fazioli concert grand.

Also its contents have changed: 19 concerts taking place from January to December, in partnership with Universal and CIDIM and featuring 10 great interpreters of two prestigious labels like Decca and Deutsche Grammophon as well as 8 reference artists of the Comitato Italiano Nazionale Musica (Italian National Music Commitee), who will present their own most recent CDs. Some of these albums have been recorded on a Fazioli F278 concert grand. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in a long series of hugely interesting events, with a repertoire ranging from romantic music, to the 20th-century and contemporary repertoire.

The first concert of the series will take place on February, 20th with the spontaneous and gentle style of the award-winning Maria Perrotta, with a programme dedicated to Chopin and Schubert taken from her most recent recordings for Decca. On March, 20th we will move to Argentina with Cesare Chiacchiaretta's bandoneon and Gianpaolo Bandini's guitar. Indeed, the Duo will perform tango music by Astor Piazzolla and the most beautiful soundtracks by Luis Bacalov, some of which written for famous Italian films like Il Postino (The Postman). On April, 10th it's the turn of Universal with the pianist Roberto Plano, who will play a particularly poetic and mystical Liszt with his complete Harmonies poétiques et religieuses. On May, 22nd we remain immersed in German Romanticism with Maurizio Baglini, who will propose excerpts from his recording marathon of Schumann's complete works for piano solo. On June, 19th it will be the turn of cellist Mattia Zappa, accompanied by Massimiliano Mainolfi on the piano. The Duo will present chamber works taken from the best Romantic and Post-Romantic Repertoire for cello, starting from Schubert's “L’Arpeggione” Sonata and continuing with intriguing masterpieces by the bohemian Dvořák and Martinů. The following event, on September, 18th, features another piano recital with Massimo Giuseppe Bianchi, who will play muisc from his Around Bach CD, recorded for Decca, feat. Bach's legacy picked up by Liszt, Franck, Reger and Busoni. Massimo Giuseppe Bianchi will play again on October 16th, this time flanked by the violinist Guido Rimonda, ranging from Paganini's viortuosism to Grieg, aiming at a balance between piano and violin, to finally take refuge in Mozart's fluid elenace. The next Universal concert will be entirely devoted to Mozart of November 20th by the pianist Roberto Prosseda who, after completing the recording of Mendelssohn's complete works for piano solo for Decca, started another great project: the recording of the complete Mozart Sonatas, recorded on a Fazioli grand piano tuned according to the "Vallotti" temperament, an unequal system widespread at Mozart's times, which emphasizes expressive differences, creating a unique made even more special by an attentive philological reading of the score. On December, 11th the Universal series will be closed by the Duo  Michele Marelli, clarinet, and Vanessa Benelli Mosell, piano: two artists who personally met the controversial composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, whom they dedicate a poutpourri entitled Stockhausen and Friends, always from a Decca recording.

This first series of artists, all Universal interpreters, will alternate with the soloists promoted by CIDIM. On March, 6th, the first of the two jazz sessions CIDIM will feature the Pescara Jazz Ensemble with their unique "electric jazz" as special guest. The next concert, on April 3rd, will see the young violinist Laura Bortolotto, and the pianist Matteo Andri, perform 3 violin sonatas by Beethoven and Schumann. On May, 8th it will be the turn of the Solisti del Corso di Canto da Camera del CIDIM (soloists of the Chamber Singing Course of the CIDIM) for an evening in partnership with Edizioni Curci. On June, 5th the second jazz session with the Duo feat. Bepi D’Amato, clarinet, and Tony Pancella, piano, will take us on a jurney across the virtuosistic jazz of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk and Billy Strayhorn. In the following concert, taking place on October, 2nd, we'll be back in Italy with Alberto Mesirca. The guitarist and editor of guitar sheet music will present an all-Italian programme from the XVI century to the present day, with pieces from one of his albums dedicated to the composer Claudio Ambrosini. The last CIDIM concert will be on November 13th with the piano duo of Paola Biondi e Debora Brunialti alternating on one piano, playing four-hands and on two pianos with music by Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninov and the brilliant 2 pianos version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in blue.

Fazioli is honoured to be technical sponsor of the concert series.
