MÛZA RUBACKYTÉ piano
Proclaimed Ambassadress of Lithuanian culture in 2006, Muza Rubackytè has had a career filled with obstacles, marked as it was by the contrast between the prestigious awards she won and the limitations imposed by the Soviet regime.
She was admitted at the “Tchaikovsky Conservatory” in Moscow at the age of 13 and she soon distinguished herself as one of the best pianists in the Soviet Union; nevertheless her precocious concert activity was affected for a long time by the strict control carried out by the political authorities. Despite the strict regulations imposed by the government regarding dates, venues and pieces to be performed she had nonetheless the opportunity to perform very often in her motherland and to build a wide repertoire.
Not even the winning the “Grand Prix” at the “Liszt-Bartok” competition in Budapest by unanimous vote managed to get her the passport that would have enabled her to perform all over the world, to satisfy the ever-increasing number of demands. Only with the declaration of independence of Lithuania in 1991 was Muza finally able to settle in Paris where she was awarded the title “Les Grands Maitres Francais”.
Nowadays she is acclaimed as “The Magnificent Muza” by many critics as her career has no more limits or boundaries.
