January to May 2017
Teatro Verdi, Pordenone
Fazioli Concert Hall, Sacile
Club Kristalia, Prata di Pordenone

Three different venues and five exclusive concerts where the piano plays the leading role.

Internationally renowned pianists and a project featuring three Italian jazz talents on stage of the Fazioli Concert Hall in a six hands concert! Piano Jazz came back with an “extended” sixth edition full of interesting surprises. Five concerts featuring big names of the international jazz scene will bring to life a „travelling“ concert series taking place on three completely different stages in a fusion between musical and entrepreneurial excellences of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

The concert series started on January, 21st at Teatro Verdi in Pordenone with one oft he most compelling pianists of his generation: the Estonian Kristjan Randalu. Sought-after soloist, composer and arranger, his music is defined by Jazz Time “an "unnameable exotic land“. Randalu, who boasts collaborations with the greatest artists inthe international jazz scene, creatively blends jazz and classical music with an original touch, always so clear and precise, warmed by the flame of his passion for music and a falmboyant creativity.

On Friday, 17th February, at Fazioli Concert Hall it was the turn of a unique project feat. Mirko Signorile, Giovanni Guidi and Claudio Filippini, renowned as three of the best Italian piano talents. The music of the three pianists, who played on stage simultaneously, made up a contemporary piece, a sound vision of the piano in the 21st century. This unquestionably original concert was recorded by Arte Suono.

Always at Fazioli Concert Hall, on Wednesday, May 3th, the Swedish double-bassist Lars Danielsson and the Martiniquan pianist GrĂ©gory Privat performed in Danielsson’s most famous project, Liberetto. One of today’s most important jazz voices, Danielsson has a broad approach to jazz, with classical intrusions and enriched with pop elements. Privat, considered a “rising star” by jazz experts, has been a member of the Liberetto quartet since 2015.

The fourth concert was hosted by Club Kristalia in Prata di Pordenone on Friday, 5th May and saw Tord Gustavsen performing piano solo. The Norwegian pianist and composer, whose touch is minimalist and intimate, has released 7 albums for ECM Records with his ensemble and trio. His tours brought him all over the world and his music has been met by a huge volume of critical approval.

A latin jazz project closed the series on Friday, 12th May, at Teatro Verdi in Pordenone: another exclusive concert featuring Aruan Ortiz’s Trio (Aruan Ortiz on piano, Brad Jones on double bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums). Named by BET Jazz “the latest Cuban wunderkind to arrive in the United States“, Ortiz is among the most interesting personalities in the contemporary piano scene. Internationally renowned producer, teacher and composer, his musical style is a fusion between his training as a classical musician and his Afro-Cuban roots.
