Culture is like jam

Marina Valensise
Culture is like jam - How companies can promote the Italian Cultural Heritage

Culture is like jam, the less one has, the more one spreads it. Marina Valensise starts from this slogan, appeared on the walls of the Sorbonne University in May 1968, to illustrate one of the Italian paradoxes: the country with the richest cultural heritage in the world is incapable of promoting it, while all the others thriveon much less conspicuous fortunes. Right from its title, her book, which will be presented on Tuesday, 6th December 2016 at 6.30 pm at the Fazioli Showroom in Milan, has the flavour of provocation. However, it is the fruit of concrete experience. Indeed, between 2012 and 2016, the author has directed the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris and succeeded in renovating its headquarters, multiplying the number of its attendees, and doubling its own private revenues compared to state allocations. Her secret? The skillful combination and powerful synergy between “public” and “private” in favour of cultural heritage, that Marina Valensise defines a model of shared promotion.

The essay published by Marsilio, rich in anecdotes and the result of thousands of meetings with personalities that add to Italy’s prestige in various fields – from design to cuisine, from architecture to music – will be presented by Marina Valensise herself, accompanied by Professor Francesco Micheli.

The event will feature the pianist Gabriele Carcano and Sir Paolo Fazioli, for whom the author has words of the highest praise when telling about the acquisition of a Fazioli grand piano for the Italian Cultural Institute.
