LOUIS LORTIE

2020-12-04 19:00:00

Louis Lortie will be back in Sacile with a recital entirly devoted to Beethoven.

Louis Lortie is on the scene for over thirty years. ‘Always impeccably and imaginative’ he conquers the audience and critics for that extraordinary «combination of spontaneity and maturity that only the great pianists have» (The London Times).
More than forty-five recordings for Chandos Records, many of which multi-award winning, testify how much Lortie is at complete ease in an incredibly large repertoire that ranges from Mozart to Stravinsky, distinguishing himself for his constant research of an original interpretation in the variety of styles.
Some examples are his interpretation of Chopin, Brahms and Ravel, the complete cycle of Années de Plégrinage by Liszt, his Beethoven, defined by the daily Die Welt «the best from Wilhelm Kempff’s times».
Louis Lortie studied in Montreal with Yvonne Hubert (student of the legendary Alfred Cortot), in Wiwen with Dieter Weber and Leon Fleisher. He had his debut with Montreal Symphony at 13 and, three years later, his first exhibition with the Toronto Symphony led him in a historic tournée in China and Japan. In 1984 he won the first prize at the Busoni Competition and distinguished himself at the Leeds Competition. From that moment on, his recitals and concerts side by side with the most renowned Orchestras and Directors touched all the continents. He’s the artistic director of LacMus International Festival on lake Como and Master in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel of Bruxelles.
