SCHUMANN: ARABESKE<\/strong> <\/p>\n Decca Classics<\/strong><\/a> releases Maurizio Baglini<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s 4th album devoted to Schumann<\/em>\u2019s piano music recorded on Fazioli<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The recording features Arabeske Op. 18<\/em>, the Fantasiest\u00fccke Op. 12<\/em> and the Romances Op. 28<\/em>, written by the composer in a period of great creative \u00e9lan. Those works are flanked by the Ges\u00e4nge der Fr\u00fche<\/em> (Songs of dawn) op. 133<\/em>, mysterious musical testament of an older Schumann on the brink of madness who, after testing many compositional forms, went back to his first love: the piano. The programme closes with a treat: \u201cAhnung\u201d,<\/em> an undated manuscript rediscovered in 2009 at the Leopold-Sophie-Bibliothek in \u00dcberlingen.<\/p>\n In these interpretations, Baglini\u2019s piano often sings like a human voice. \u201cI have been inspired not by Bellini\u2019s Bel Canto, that influenced Chopin, but the German Lieder, since Schumann\u2019s melody always stems from the prosody of his mother tongue. For instance, regarding the suggestive long melody of the Arabeske\u2026 I decided to make it breathe as a singer would do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n His interpretation of these masterpieces has pushed Baglini to adopt, in some cases, a slower pace than foreseen by the traditional performance practice of these pieces. \u201cI weighed this up a lot \u2013 he concludes \u2013 choosing not to follow the metronomes noted on the score, which might have been modified on second thoughts, even by Clara Schumann.
