After studying with Yvonne Hubert (a pupil of the legendary Alfred Cortot), Louis Lortie studied in Vienna with Beethoven specialist Dieter Weber and subsequently with Schnabel disciple Leon Fleisher. In 1984, he won First Prize in the Busoni Competition; the same year, he was a prize-winner at the Leeds Competition. The thirty-year collaboration with the Chandos label has resulted in more than 45 recordings, ranging from Mozart to Stravinsky, including the complete Beethoven Sonatas and Liszt’s Ann\u00e9es de P\u00e8lerinage, nominated as one of the best recordings of 2021 from the New Yorker.
