Born in Vietnam and trained at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, he rose to global prominence in 1980 as the first Asian artist to win First Prize at the X Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Since then, he has performed in over forty countries, in legendary halls such as New York\u2019s Lincoln Center, Paris\u2019s Salle Pleyel, Vienna\u2019s Musikverein, and Tokyo\u2019s Suntory Hall. A sought-after juror and teacher, he teaches at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and the New England Conservatory in Boston, and is an honorary professor at the Conservatories of Beijing and Shanghai.
