El Salón México
by Roberto Plano
Winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition and the American Prize, Roberto Plano has also been honoured at the Van Cliburn, Honens, Dublin, Sendai, Geza Anda, and Valencia competitions. He has performed at Lincoln Center, Salle Cortot, Wigmore Hall, and the Herkulessaal, under conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, James Conlon, and Pinchas Zukerman. The New York Times praised his “wonderful purity and mastery of the most profound emotions,” while the Chronicle dubbed him the “Pavarotti of the piano.” His recording projects with labels such as Decca and Brilliant Classics further affirm his artistic stature. A faculty member at Boston University since 2016, he was appointed Associate Professor at Indiana University in 2018. Since 2024, he has served as Head of Department and Professor of Piano at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, as well as International Visiting Professor at the Royal Northern College of Music. He is regularly invited to serve on the juries of major international competitions, including the Van Cliburn, Seoul, and Honens.
Rarely is one successful, as Plano is, in combining both in a flawless unity, to be technically brilliant on the one hand and at the same time to let profound emotions speak.
