Robert Schumann, Jean Paul Richter, and the Fantastic
by di Roberto Calabretto

Described by The New Yorker as “adventurous and passionate,” Ukrainian pianist Inna Faliks is distinguished by her communicative artistry and her refined exploration of tone colour. In her recitals, she brings together the great pianistic tradition with an unceasing curiosity for contemporary music, often giving numerous world premieres. Her recent album Manuscripts Don’t Burn (Sono Luminus), featured on NPR, is her most personal recording project to date: it includes five world premieres written for her alongside works by Schubert–Liszt, Fazıl Say, and Fanny Mendelssohn, combining solo piano with spoken word. Faliks is the author of the memoir Weight in the Fingertips (2023) and creator of Polonaise-Fantasie, an autobiographical monologue-recital. She has recorded for Navona, MSR, and Delos to critical acclaim, and is the founder of the Music/Words series, which unites poetry and music. She lives in Los Angeles, where she teaches and serves as Head of the Piano Department at UCLA.

A concert pianist of the highest order, Inna Faliks can be as dramatic or as subtle as a great stage actor
