An Exceptional Season Opening at Fazioli Concert Hall: Francesco Piemontesi to Replace Richard Goode
The opening concert of the new Fazioli Concert Hall season, scheduled for Friday 30 October at 7:30 pm, will feature an unexpected change of programme.
The cancellation of Richard Goode’s European tour due to health reasons has required the artistic management to make a last-minute change, one of the most delicate challenges any concert organiser can face. However, this unfortunate development has also brought an exceptional opportunity: the chance to hear Francesco Piemontesi, one of the most highly regarded pianists on the international stage, perform in Sacile.
The availability of the Swiss pianist is all the more significant given his busy international schedule. In recent days, Piemontesi has been touring with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Sakari Oramo, performing concertos by Brahms and Dvořák in Katowice, Warsaw and Varna. In the coming weeks, he will join the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding for Schoenberg’s Piano Concerto, followed by performances with the Oslo Philharmonic conducted by Manfred Honeck. He will round off the year with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra under Fabio Luisi.
Despite the change of artist, the concert will retain one of its original aims: to explore Franz Schubert’s late style, the subject of the pre-concert listening guide presented by Roberto Calabretto. While the Sonata in B-flat major D. 960, originally scheduled to be performed by Richard Goode, represents one of the culminating achievements of the Viennese composer’s creative life, the Sonata in G major Op. 78, D. 894, known as the Fantasia, with which Francesco Piemontesi will open his recital, offers an equally valuable insight into Schubert’s mature style, characterised by expressive intimacy, formal freedom and contemplative depth.
The pianist will then take the audience into another musical and geographical world, one particularly close to his artistic sensibility: Franz Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, Première année: Suisse, a collection in which the landscapes of Switzerland are transformed into music through a series of richly evocative compositions.
Tickets will be available to purchase online from Monday 19 October, while reservations by email or telephone will open on 26 October.
