Alexander Skrjabin and the music of ecstasy

His interpretative voice is capable of shedding new light on a vast repertoire and his concert programs, as well as the award-winning recordings, testify to a rare versatility. After studying with Yvonne Hubert (a pupil of the legendary Alfred Cortot), Louis Lortie studied in Vienna with Beethoven specialist Dieter Weber and subsequently with Schnabel disciple Leon Fleisher. In 1984, he won First Prize in the Busoni Competition; the same year, he was a prize-winner at the Leeds Competition. The thirty-year collaboration with the Chandos label has resulted in more than 45 recordings, ranging from Mozart to Stravinsky, including the complete Beethoven Sonatas and Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage, nominated as one of the best recordings of 2021 from the New Yorker. Founder and Artistic Director of the LacMus Festival on Lake Como, he has made the promotion of young talents an authentic mission.
