The piano in symphonic guise
by Roberto Calabretto
Acclaimed by the New York Times for his extraordinary interpretative sensitivity, the Russian-Israeli pianist Roman Rabinovich won the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master competition in Tel Aviv in 2008. Since then he has been invited to perform in the most important halls in Europe and North America. Critics have highlighted his inventive interpretations of Haydn’s sonatas and his adeptness in performing piano concertos from various eras, from Bach to Lutoslawski. Rabinovich, who is also a composer and visual artist, has a repertoire that spans six centuries, from Byrd to Boulez and beyond. After studying at the Juilliard School in New York, he was among the first students of András Schiff to be selected for the ‘Building Bridges’ series. He currently co-directs ChamberFest in Cleveland and ChamberFest West in Calgary with his wife, violinist Diana Cohen.
a true polymath, in the Renaissance sense of the word.
