Beethoven’s legacy
by Luca Cossettini
Alexander Gadjiev owes his musical education to his parents, both teachers and musicians, and his Middle-European cultural identity to Gorizia, as well as to his hometown of Gorizia, a cultural crossroads in Middle Europe. These factors have enhanced his exceptional curiosity and ability to engage with a wide variety of musical styles.
Gadjiev gained recognition for winning the second prize at the most recent edition of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where he also received the Krystian Zimerman Special Prize for the best performance of the Sonata. Prior to this, he achieved success at the Hamamatsu Competition (2015), the Montecarlo World Piano Masters (2018), and the Sydney International Competition (2021). Additionally, he was named a BBC New Generation Artist (2019-2021) and received the 42nd Abbiati Award for best soloist in 2022. As an ambassador of Gorizia, the European Capital of Culture 2025, he was recently honoured with the „Prešeren Award,“ the highest Slovenian art honour.
