Musical Vienna between Classicism and Romanticism
By Luca Cossettini

Eric Lu and Kate Liu share a profound poetic sensitivity, shaped by complementary studies and careers. Born in Massachusetts and Singapore respectively, they both trained at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music. Eric continued his studies with Dang Thai Son, while Kate studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky at the Juilliard School in New York. Eric won First Prize at the Leeds Competition in 2018, while Kate received Third Prize, the Mazurka Prize, and the Audience Prize at the 2015 Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where Eric, at just 17, was the youngest prizewinner. Both artists have collaborated with leading orchestras and performed in the iconic halls of the world’s great musical capitals. A Warner Classics artist, Eric is acclaimed for his interpretations of Schubert and Chopin; Kate has recorded for the Chopin Institute and is the recent recipient of the Olivier Berggruen Prize at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

Kate Liu both lost herself in the music, but also saw clearly the way before her.

Eric Lu wants to get as close to the truth as possible… Simply fascinating.
